SAQCC Gas Registration Guide for SARACCA Members

Welcome to SARACCA!

As a valued member, it’s important to note that registration with SAQCC Gas is a mandatory requirement. Below is a comprehensive guide to assist you through the registration process.

In July 2009, the Department of Employment and Labour introduced the “Pressure Equipment Regulations,” which came into effect on 1st October 2009, as part of the Occupational Health and Safety Act Number 85 of 1993. Subsequent revisions were made in 2015 (Revision 1 with guide notes) and November 2017.

SAQCC Gas has been entrusted by the Department of Employment and Labour with the responsibility of registering and managing a database of “Authorised Persons” dealing with gases under pressure. SARACCA, as an accredited member association of SAQCC Gas, plays a crucial role in reviewing and processing applications from individuals in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

The regulations

An “Authorised Person” is defined by the regulations as an individual registered with SAQCC Gas, demonstrating competence within the refrigeration scope of work. In alignment with SANS 10147-2014 (Refrigerating systems, including plants associated with air-conditioning systems), the refrigeration and air conditioning industry categorizes the scope of refrigeration work into three fundamental categories.

Ensure compliance and embark on a seamless registration journey with SAQCC Gas through SARACCA. Your commitment to this process ensures a safer and more regulated industry for all.

Our collective goal is to consistently enhance the image and standards of the industry, and the Association serves as a dedicated platform for achieving this objective.

In July 2009, the Department of Labour unveiled the “Pressure Equipment Regulations” as a crucial component of the Occupational Health and Safety Act Number 85 of 1993. Recognized by the Department of Labour, the South African Qualification Certification Committee for Gas (SAQCC Gas) is authorized to register “Authorized Persons.” As a member of this committee, SARACCA is entrusted with the responsibility of registering practitioners in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning.

Our Association actively engages in various forums addressing industry-wide issues and requirements. We participate in discussions at SAQCC Gas, focus on contracts, collaborate with the Pressure Equipment Regulations Forum (PERF), and work closely with the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) on matters related to Duct Manufacturing, installation, and Refrigeration. Through these engagements, we contribute to the continual improvement and advancement of our industry.
