- The Association through its membership of the Specialist Engineering Contractors Committee has direct access to the Joint Building Contracts Committee. We are able to discuss and obtain advice on contractual matters affecting the air conditioning sub contractors in the building construction environment. The Association also is in a position to discuss and remedy unfavourable contractual conditions which may be proposed from time to time.
- The Contract Price Adjustment Provisions are also discussed at these committees. As at the end of 2002 the weightings for Work Group 170 were reviewed and revised after problems with the earlier published indices were raised by SARACCA. SARACCA continues to monitor the movement of monthly indices.
- We have representation at the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa, which gives members access to Industrial Relations Services such as advice on labour matters, dispute resolution and employment conditions. Information on material and labour indices are also available.
- Through our affiliation with the Master Builders of South Africa we have representation on the Contractual and Legal sub committee which compliments the committee work at SECC and JBCC. This affiliation also keeps the Association in touch with the Building Industry through Master Builders Association around the country on matters of common interest.
- We provide input to the review and revision of SANS standards such as SANS 10147 on refrigeration installation, SANS 10173 for installation, testing and balancing of air conditioning ductwork and SANS 1238 for the manufacture of ductwork. All of these have an impact on our industry and it should be noted that SANS 0147 is now part of the OSH Act and has major implications regarding responsibility and obligations on refrigeration installations and maintenance.
- The tender reporting system administrated by the office provides method of monitoring onerous contractual conditions and where standard contract documents are modified to the detriment of the tendering members. Through the Code of Tendering Practice the members can discuss a course of action and negotiation with the Enquirer to remedy these points of concern.
- The SARACCA office is able, through its Executive Director who has over 30 years experience in air conditioning contracting, give advice and information on tendering, contracting and documentation matters. Members are able to talk to their fellow members and share ideas and information to be able to operate effectively and not be isolated.
